What would change the view
- The view turns Hold below $49.61 (fair value $42.17 over 0.85) and Buy at or below the $39.36 purchase price; the price needs networking at 22% a year through fiscal 2031 for even the bull's operating inputs to reach it ($50.45 with the bull's networking, AI and core margin)
- Customers digest networking orders (pause buying to absorb what they already bought) as in fiscal 2024: the bear's networking path alone is $28.40 (-$13.77); putting the old one-in-six-a-year haircut back in the central gives $36.91 (-$5.26)
- Networking growth: 5% a year gives $31.49 (-$10.68); 18% a year gives $47.23 (+$5.05); a fiscal 2027 guide under 14% or two quarters of networking orders below revenue moves toward the first
- Networking margin: 22% by fiscal 2031 instead of 26.5% gives $35.85 (-$6.32); 28% gives $44.28 (+$2.11)
- Exit multiple: 10.7x EV/EBIT, the method's anchor with HPE's own history restated without Financial Services; on the unrestated consolidated history (13.6x) it is $46.01 (+$3.84); a segment blend at ten-year medians (Cisco 17.9x on networking, 12.7x on Cloud & AI, 16.2x blended) gives $49.55 (+$7.37), a sensitivity only
- Memory: two straight quarters of DRAM contract price falls over 10% before fiscal 2029, or a traditional server margin that falls to normal while memory prices still rise, refutes the premium tied to memory's excess over mid-cycle
Catalysts
- Q4 FY2026 results and the fiscal 2027 guide (early December 2026; date tentative): a fiscal 2027 networking growth guide at the 19.5% midpoint or above holds the central; under 14%, the pre-raise low end, moves toward the bear. A networking margin under 23% says the synergies are reinvested
- Fiscal 2027 quarters: networking orders below revenue for two quarters is the 2023-24 digestion pattern the bear now carries; networking margin of 25% or more in fiscal 2027 and 26% in fiscal 2028 as synergies reach $800M
- Fiscal 2028: networking growth near the 17.3% framework path, against the bear's -15.7% digestion year; two straight quarters of DRAM contract price falls over 10% before fiscal 2029 move memory toward the bear

This text argues the original call. The current figures are at the top.
We rate HPE an Avoid: we value a share at $42.17 and it trades at $54.72. Fair value is 0.77 times the price. The view turns Hold only below $49.61 and Buy at or below $39.36. The price rests on networking growing far faster than management's own targets, or on an exit at 20.0x EV/EBIT against HPE's own 8.0x history (section 4).
What this revision does. It revises our earlier HPE report ($54.39, Hold). Dong, Capfolio's owner, asked on 2026-10-22 that the central case (our best estimate) take management's own networking targets at their midpoint, with the risk that customers digest their orders (pause buying to absorb what they already bought) living only in the bear case (the severe but plausible bad outcome; the bull case is the matching good one). That adds $5.81 to the central value. The central value is still $42.17, not the $63.65 the old report printed for "no haircut", for two reasons. The valuation method the published report used was replaced on 2026-10-18, before this revision, and the restatement under today's method had already moved it from $54.39 to $40.71. And the review found two errors in how the old model sits on today's method, both inherited by that restatement, worth -$4.41 together. At $54.72 fair value is 0.77 times the price: Avoid. It turns Hold only below $49.61.
1. From $54.39 to $42.17, step by step
Each step is on top of the last, replayed by model.py (bridge(),
end of output.txt, bridge.json). Step 0 reruns the
published model's inputs under its own valuation (its segment-blend outside
view and the -1.0 point calibration) and reproduces $54.39; step 2 reproduces
the published restatement of 2026-10-18 ($40.71, bear $20.91, bull $62.48) to
the cent (both confirmed by the model auditor, a reviewer who reruns the
model).

| 4 | Central networking at the framework midpoint, no digestion haircut | forecast judgment (Dong) | $46.58 | +$5.81 | $20.94 | $62.58 | $44.17 | $43.47 |
| 5 | Bear networking: framework FY2027, the FY2024 digestion year (-15.7%) in FY2028, then 3% | forecast judgment (Dong; the path is ours) | $46.58 | $0.00 | $18.56 | $62.58 | $43.58 | $43.47 |
| 6 | Outside view's EBIT after FY2031 acquired amortization ($0.20B), the GAAP basis its multiple is measured on | correction (model auditor; the second reviewer, OpenAI's Codex, found the same) | $46.01 | -$0.57 | $17.99 | $62.01 | $43.01 | $42.94 |
| 7 | HPE's own EV/EBIT history restated without Financial Services (FS, HPE's financing arm), which the model values apart: own median 13.7x to 8.0x, so the anchor 13.6x to 10.7x | correction (model auditor; 10-Ks) | $42.17 | -$3.84 | $16.46 | $56.95 | $39.44 | $39.36 |
By kind, on the central: shared valuation rules -$13.68 (steps 1-2, already
public in the restatement); time +$0.07; Dong's decision +$5.81; corrections
-$4.41. Residual nil. No new evidence about HPE's business entered: no filing
since the 8-K of 2026-09-30 (scripts/research-events.py, 2026-10-22). The
steps interact: the haircut was worth +$9.26 under the old method (taken
first) and +$5.81 at step 4, because the old outside view priced networking
profit at Cisco's latest 29.3x and the old cost of equity was a point lower.
Step 2 also carried the amortization error that step 6 removes (the second
reviewer: the multiple alone was -$9.87, the lost amortization +$0.57).
2. Dong chose management's networking midpoint for the central case; the digestion risk now sits in the bear
Dong's decision (2026-10-22). The central case uses management's own target midpoint. His reasoning: he wants the best estimate of fair value; no evidence was found that cutting the framework makes the forecast more accurate; and a haircut on cash flows charges again a risk the discount rate already prices. On the evidence: HPE met both company-level revenue frameworks that can be tested cleanly (FY2020-23 at 2.6% a year against 1-3%; FY2022-24 at 2.6% against 2-4%; 8-Ks 2020-10-15 and 2021-10-28, FMP revenue, table in the earlier report's assumptions.md). The one-in-six-a-year odds were our judgment from one segment episode, with no dated source for any rate.
The opposite-side reviewer's objection, which we print rather than settle: the cost of equity prices how HPE's returns move with the market, not the expected size of an operating shortfall, so the discount rate does not by itself already charge a digestion year. With no haircut, the central is the midpoint-met case, not a probability-weighted mean; the digestion risk enters the value only through the bear's 25% weight in the case-weighted $39.44. Put back at one in six a year it is $36.91 (-$5.26).
Central networking: 19.5% in FY2027 (midpoint of "high teens to low-20s"), 17.3% in FY2028 and FY2029 (so FY2026-29 compounds at the 18% midpoint of "high-teens"), then the excess over 4% halves each year: 10.6%, 7.3%. FY2031 networking revenue is $22.1B (old $18.4B). Management's company framework for FY2027 was revenue +13-17% (2026-09-02); our central is +17.4%, at the top, because the networking raise of 2026-09-30 came after it and adds about one point (our arithmetic: $11.34B x 4 points over $46.5B; the second reviewer: 13.97-17.97% for the raised range; capping FY2027 at 17% costs $0.003).
The bear carries the digestion year. FY2027 at the framework (19.5%; supply commitments doubled in Q3 FY2026), then FY2028 at -15.7% (Intelligent Edge FY2024, "softened demand", 10-K FY2024), then the old bear's 3% a year. The rest of the bear is unchanged: memory -45% in FY2029-30 with a negative premium, AI systems falling to $6B at 4%, core margin 9%, networking margin 22-23%. It is a compound stress, harsher than 2023-24 itself: that boom and digestion left Intelligent Edge revenue 17.6% above its start, this path 0.7% (the second reviewer, from the FY2024 10-K). If the framework resumes after the digestion year the bear is $20.17 (+$3.71). The networking path alone, everything else central, is $28.40 (-$13.77).
3. The forecast and value: networking growth is what moves the value
| Central | FY2026 | FY2027 | FY2028 | FY2029 | FY2030 | FY2031 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue ($B, incl. FS) | 46.5 | 54.6 | 58.6 | 59.2 | 60.7 | 61.9 |
| of which networking | 11.3 | 13.6 | 15.9 | 18.6 | 20.6 | 22.1 |
| of which memory content | 9.9 | 11.3 | 10.9 | 9.0 | 7.3 | 6.0 |
| EBIT ex-FS margin | 11.5% | 11.9% | 12.0% | 12.0% | 11.7% | 11.5% |
| NOPAT ex-FS ($B) | 4.16 | 5.09 | 5.54 | 5.57 | 5.57 | 5.59 |
(EBIT is operating profit, NOPAT is net operating profit after tax, and "ex-FS" excludes Financial Services, which the model values apart.)
The exit is the mean of the fade ($68.71) and the outside view ($61.95: 10.7x
EV/EBIT on FY2031 EBIT of $6.5B after acquired amortization, plus the exit
bridge of $20.2B). The 10.7x is the method's anchor with one recorded change
from the default (Forecast.changes): HPE's own fiscal-year-end EV/EBIT,
FY2016-25, restated without Financial Services. The model values FS apart (10x
its after-tax earnings in the bridge, its $11.6B of debt outside net debt) and
prices ex-FS EBIT, so the history it borrows a multiple from must be ex-FS too:
EV less debt benefiting FS (10-Ks: $11.2-11.9B every year) and FS equity at the
same 10x, over GAAP operating income less FS earnings ($278-399M). HPE's own
median goes from 13.7x to 8.0x; the peers' 13.5x is unchanged. If only $8B or
$10B of the debt benefiting FS is consolidated debt (the 10-K says it includes
intercompany equity treated as debt), applied to the bridge and the history
alike, the central is $41.67 or $41.85.
HPE's own beta (how much the stock moves with the market) is 1.170 Blume-adjusted (raw 1.253 on 259 weekly log returns against SPY, 2021-10 to 2026-10, Robinhood): cost of equity 10.20%, fair value $43.05, purchase price $39.79, view unchanged (market.txt).
Sensitivities of central fair value (output.txt):
| Driver | Low / high | Value | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Networking growth a year | 5% / 18% | $31.49 / $47.23 | -$10.68 / +$5.05 |
| Networking margin by FY2031 | 22% / 28% | $35.85 / $44.28 | -$6.32 / +$2.11 |
| Digestion haircut put back | 1/6, 1/4, 1/3 a year | $36.91 / $34.53 / $32.29 | -$5.26 / -$7.64 / -$9.88 |
| Exit on HPE's consolidated history (13.6x, the last correction in section 1 undone) | $46.01 | +$3.84 | |
| Exit as a segment blend at ten-year medians (Cisco 17.9x networking, 12.7x Cloud & AI; 16.2x) | sensitivity only | $49.55 | +$7.37 |
| FY2031 NOPAT | -10% / +10% | $39.00 / $45.34 | -$3.17 / +$3.17 |
| Core server and storage margin | 9% / 13% | $40.09 / $44.26 | -$2.08 / +$2.09 |
| AI systems FY2031 | $6B / $19B | $40.96 / $44.11 | -$1.21 / +$1.94 |
| Growth after FY2031 | 2.5% / 6% | $40.94 / $43.97 | -$1.23 / +$1.80 |
| Memory-boom margin premium | x0.5 / x1.5 | $41.28 / $43.07 | -$0.89 / +$0.89 |
| Beta | 1.00 / 1.40 | $46.20 / $39.47 |
The segment blend is printed, not used. The published report judged networking at a peer's latest multiple, which the method no longer admits; whether HPE's mix earns more than its own ex-FS history is an exit judgment for a blind revision, not one to make after seeing the price.
4. The market pass: the price needs networking growth of 22.7% a year, or a 20.0x exit
The market pass is the step, run after the model is committed, where we first
read the price, the Street's targets and estimates and the Alpha rank. This
one ran after the model commit c7105c2ab. The review round then changed the
model (section 9); the figures below are after it.
Price and view. HPE $54.7175 (Robinhood last trade, 2026-10-22T16:15:46Z; official close $58.17 on 2026-10-21, SIP; FMP's quote in research-check was $54.80 the same morning). Fair value $42.17 is under 0.85 times the price ($46.51), so the view is Avoid; it is Hold between $39.36 and $49.61 and Buy at or below $39.36. The central case returns 4.69% a year to the exit from $54.72. Before the review corrections the draft was a Hold by seven cents ($46.58 against $46.51).
Price context (it changes no number). HPE closed at $73.46 on 2026-10-09,
its high in the saved bars (intraday $73.56), then fell five sessions running
to $55.13 on 2026-10-16, rose to $58.17 by 2026-10-21 and is down 5.9% today
with the group: ANET and DELL -6.3%, SMCI -5.2%, CSCO -2.5%, QQQ -2.1%, SPY
-1.0% (market.txt, about 16:15 UTC; QQQ and SPY are funds that track the
Nasdaq and S&P indexes). The published report's "record high about
$67 on 2026-09-30" came from secondary news pages; Robinhood's daily bars put
2026-09-30's high at $67.10 and the high at $73.56 on 2026-10-09
(data/hpe-daily-2026-09-25.json).
What the price requires (alpha research odds, odds.json), one driver
at a time with the rest central: networking growth averaging 22.7% a year
FY2027-31 with the path's shape kept, which puts FY2027 at 27.8%, above the
framework's 22% top (22% flat every year gives $53.23); or a networking margin
of 35.4%; or a core server margin of 23.0%; or an exit at 20.0x EV/EBIT
(market.txt). The price rests on networking staying a high-growth business
well past the framework, or being valued like one at exit.
Odds. 16.6% that fair value reaches the price under our scenario spread (20,000 draws, seed 20261022; subjective, not calibrated); simulated median $41, 10th to 90th $28 to $60. The networking-growth spread was widened in review from 3.5 points to 8.5 points, from HPE's own six organic networking years (the networking-spread finding in section 9); at the draft's spread P was 9.9%. Networking growth explains 95% of the variance alone.
Alpha's dated view (alpha rank HPE --raw --json --allow-stale-model-cache, read in place under readonly-data-run.sh,
2026-10-22; cache partial, integrity WARN with 3 warnings, not reviewed). Rank
9 of 709, score 98.9, Strong: momentum A (rank 9), growth A (30), valuation B
(85), expectations B (123), quality C (266). Why we differ, our inference: the
rank reads what the stock and estimates have done; this report finds the price
above the cash-flow value. The lenses disagree; the record will settle it.
Street (FMP via research-check, 2026-10-22). Revenue $54.7B for FY2027, $59.2B for FY2028, $64.3B for FY2029 (16, 16, 8 analysts) against our $54.6B, $58.6B and $59.2B: with the midpoint we match the Street through FY2028 and sit 8% under in FY2029, where our memory content falls (our inference about the gap). The mean target of $70 discounted one year at our cost of equity is $63.39, 1.50x our value; the automatic check for a value far below the Street target (under 0.6x of it) does not fire. The gap is mostly the exit multiple: the price needs 20.0x on FY2031 EBIT, and HPE's own ex-FS history was 8.0x.
5. The bear is $16.46 and the bull $56.95; the best case that the price is right gives $50.45
The bear ($16.46, exit $23) is networking digestion plus the memory bust: a FY2027 at the framework, a -15.7% FY2028, slow growth after, memory -45% in FY2029-30 with inventory losses, AI systems shrinking. The case for it is the 2023-24 precedent, $11.8B of inventory and $30.4B of purchase obligations (10-Q), and AI networking demand concentrated in a few buyers.
The bull ($56.95, exit $90) is the framework met at its top, a milder memory decline and AI systems at $19B; it is just above today's price. The strongest case that the price is right (built by the opposite-side reviewer because the draft's odds that fair value reaches the price were 9.9%, under 10%): the bull's networking growth and margin, AI systems and core margin inside the central, with memory and the exit central, give $50.45 ($55.15 before the last correction in section 1). The operating upside management described at its investor day (distribution, service attach, Juniper savings, Helios) gets close to the price; it does not reach it without a richer exit than HPE's history. The flip to Hold is a price under $49.61 or a reason, from the business and not the price, that HPE's networking deserves more than its own history at exit.
6. Next results (Q4 FY2026, early December 2026): the FY2027 outlook settles this revision
From the model's FY2026 build (nine months reported plus Q4 at the guide
midpoint, the earlier HPE report's assumptions); the record's forecasts
carry them.
| Metric | Ours | Range | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue ($B) | 14.35 | 13.9-14.8 | Q4 guide midpoint (8-K 2026-09-02) |
| Networking revenue ($B) | 3.05 | 2.85-3.25 | FY2026 networking +73-74% guide less nine months |
| Cloud & AI revenue ($B) | 11.08 | 10.5-11.6 | the rest of the guide midpoint |
| Networking operating margin (%) | 22.3 | 21.0-24.0 | Q3 22.0% plus synergy timing |
| FY2027 networking growth outlook (%, midpoint) | 19.5 | 17.0-22.0 | the 2026-09-30 framework, now our central |
The outlook settles this revision: each point a year of FY2027-31 networking growth is worth about $1.21 a share (5% to 18%: $15.74 over 13 points), and a guide under 14% says the bear's world is arriving.
7. Catalysts and falsifiers
- The view turns Hold below $49.61 and Buy at or below $39.36.
- Q4 FY2026 and the FY2027 guide (early December; date tentative): networking guided at 19.5% or more holds the central; under 14% moves to the bear.
- Networking orders against revenue through FY2027: two quarters of orders below revenue is the 2023-24 pattern the bear carries.
- Networking margin: 25% or more in FY2027 and 26% in FY2028 as synergies reach $800M; under 23% says the synergies are reinvested.
- DRAM contract prices: two straight quarters down more than 10% before FY2029 move memory toward the bear.

9. Review round (2026-10-22): two corrections lowered the value from $46.58 to $42.17
Three reviews ran, in one round: Capfolio's automated report check
(research-eval, run by the CIO agent), the model auditor (Claude Opus, in the
reviewer role with fresh context) and the opposite-side advocate (OpenAI's
Codex, run read-only with web access, here called the second reviewer). Every
figure below is printed by
model.py, market.py or alpha research odds at the final commit. Only
model.py, drivers.json and their outputs changed after the market pass;
assumptions.md is left as committed at c7105c2ab, and this section amends
it.
| Finding | Answer | Before, after | Dollars |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amortization basis. Auditor (top severity) and the second reviewer, separately: the outside view prices EBIT before acquired amortization at a multiple measured after it. The old model subtracted FY2031 amortization ($0.20B) in its outside view; the port to the method's anchor dropped it, and the published restatement has the same gap | Fixed. The outside view's EBIT now takes the $0.20B off (a normalisation line), the fade adds it back (it runs on NOPAT before amortization, as before). Evidence: amortization is a line inside GAAP operating income (8-K 2026-09-02; 10-K FY25 schedule) | Central $46.58 to $46.01; view Hold to Avoid at $54.72 | -$0.57 |
| Financial Services in the exit multiple. Auditor (top severity if confirmed): HPE's own 13.7x is consolidated, its EV holding the debt that funds Financial Services and its EBIT FS earnings; the model applies it to ex-FS EBIT and adds FS again at 10x | Fixed, on 10-K figures. HPE's history restated without FS, each year from the 10-Ks (debt benefiting FS $11.2-11.9B, FS earnings $278-399M, FS equity at the bridge's 10x); recorded as an exit-multiple change from the default. The auditor's estimate held FS debt at $11.6B every year (-$4.10); the filed figures give -$3.84. Not resolved: how much of the debt benefiting FS is intercompany equity; at $8B consolidated it is $41.67 | Anchor 13.6x to 10.7x; central $46.01 to $42.17 | -$3.84 |
| Networking path wording. Auditor: "networking at 19.5% held for five years" misdescribes the solver, which shifts the whole path (FY2027 above the framework top) | Fixed (wording). Header and section 4 now give the shifted path; a flat 22% is printed | Text | $0 |
| The world where the price is right. The automatic check on odds under 10% (here 9.9%): build the world in which the price is right (second reviewer) | Disclosed. The bull's operating inputs in the central give $50.45, under the price and above the Hold line; the price also needs a richer exit than HPE's history (20.0x). No assumption moved toward it | P 9.9% at draft, 16.6% after the networking-spread change below | $0 |
| Networking-growth spread. The automatic check on a narrow odds range (second reviewer): the networking-growth spread (3.5 points) understates HPE's own history; a two-year block resampling gives $34.71-$63.56 at the draft | Fixed (odds only, from history, not the price). drivers.json spread now 8.5 points, the standard deviation of the six organic years FY2019-24 over the root of five, cut at -5% and 30%. Changes no fair value |
10th-90th $37-$55 to $28-$60 | $0 |
| Bear severity. Second reviewer: the bear is a compound stress harsher than 2023-24 (which left Intelligent Edge revenue 17.6% above its start; this path 0.7%) | Disclosed, not changed. The bear is the plausible bad world, not the analogy; it keeps the old bear's 3% later years so the step isolates the digestion year. Section 2 says so and prints the framework-resumed bear | Bear $16.46; framework resumed $20.17, weighted $40.37 | $0 |
| Discount rate and digestion. Second reviewer: that the discount rate already charges digestion is not established; the central is now a conditional case | Disclosed. Section 2 carries the objection; the decision stands as Dong's, and the case-weighted value carries the bear | $0 | |
| FY2027 company revenue growth. Second reviewer: company FY2027 revenue +17.4% against the +13-17% guide | Cleared. The later networking raise adds 0.975 point (second reviewer); capping at 17% costs $0.003 | $0 | |
| Bridge step 2 mix. Second reviewer: step 2 of the bridge mixed the multiple change with the lost amortization | Fixed by the amortization finding (step 6 of the bridge); section 1 says so | Multiple alone -$9.87, amortization +$0.57 | $0 |
| Networking margin. Automated report check, on the mirror image of a timed downturn (a peak held as normal): networking margin 26.5% in FY2031 is above Intelligent Edge's best organic year (25.0%, FY2023); management's target covers FY2027-29 | Disclosed. The combined business includes Juniper and $800M of synergies, so the pre-merger best is not the ceiling; the target is management's and Dong's decision is to take management's midpoints. At 25% the central is about $2.1 lower (draft: $44.28 against $46.58) | Kept | $0 |
Review checks. The two odds checks are answered in the table (the world where the price is right; the networking-growth spread). The check on the net move after the market was handed over: -$4.41, away from the price, on two basis corrections with filing evidence. The check on a changed view: Hold to Avoid, from those corrections; a fix changed the call, so the rule calls for the auditor to rerun; it has not (see the CIO agent's report).
The automated report check ran at bd4573628 (CIO agent, 2026-10-22). The
script's failures were the then-missing report lines and decision block, fixed
by this report. The bridge checks (cash, stock pay and debt each counted once,
and similar) were inherited from the reviewed earlier bridge and not rechecked
beyond the auditor's pass. The checks on case coherence, exit methods, the
case-weighted value and timed downturns passed; the check on whether the bear
mixes sources passed (the bear's FY2027 networking growth with its 23% margin
is conservative, not mixed); the check for a peak held as normal raised the
networking-margin finding above. The source checks on Street target dates and
on 8-Ks filed since the last 10-K or 10-Q passed (no filing after 2026-09-30).
The blind-step check does not apply to a declared unblinded report, and its
check that no assumption changed after the commit without a reason passed at
the draft. The decision checks (fair value and exit price distinct, reverse
underwrite, Alpha's view, dated falsifiers, reconciliation of old and new
values) passed, and the last one, a row for every reviewer finding, is the
table above.

Original call, Oct 22, 2026 (before the Oct 26, 2026 restatement)
Unblinded revision (the author had already seen the market) of the earlier HPE report 2026-10-16-hpe-2 ($54.39, Hold), which stays as published and graded. Dong, Capfolio's owner, decided on 2026-10-22 that the central case uses management's own networking framework midpoint (8-K 2026-09-30: fiscal 2027 19.5%, fiscal 2026-29 18% a year), with the risk of customers digesting orders only in the bear: no evidence showed the old one-in-six-a-year haircut made the forecast more accurate. Bridge from $54.39, each step replayed in model.py: the two method changes of 2026-10-18 already in the published restatement, the cost-of-equity calibration removed (-$4.38) and the outside view at the method's anchor instead of Cisco's latest 29.3x on networking (-$9.30), to $40.71; valuation date (+$0.07); the haircut removed (+$5.81, Dong's decision); the bear now carrying a -15.7% digestion year in fiscal 2028 (central nil, bear -$2.38); then two corrections from the model auditor (a reviewer who reruns the model), the outside view's EBIT after acquired amortization like the GAAP multiple it is priced at (-$0.57) and HPE's own EV/EBIT history (enterprise value over operating profit) restated without Financial Services (FS, HPE's financing arm), which the model values apart (own median 13.7x to 8.0x, anchor 13.6x to 10.7x, -$3.84; 10-K FS debt and earnings FY2016-25). Central fair value $42.17 at a 10.42% cost of equity; bear $18.56 before and $16.46 after the corrections; bull $56.95; case-weighted $39.44; exit $65.33 on 2031-10-31; purchase price $39.36 at the method's 12% hurdle (Dong's switch to buying at fair value is pending, between batches). At $54.72 (Robinhood last trade, 2026-10-22 16:15 UTC, on a sector sell-off day) fair value is 0.77x the price, so the rule says Avoid; it would say Hold only below $49.61. Without the two auditor corrections the draft was a Hold by seven cents.
HPE — Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company — research view (market: Avoid)
As of 2026-10-22 · unblinded. Before building this model the author had read the 2026-10-16
market pass (the step where we first read the price and the Street: $54.99, Street $70), the
published restatement of the earlier report ($40.71, Avoid) and the decision of Dong (Capfolio's
owner). Model commit c7105c2ab, pushed before this report's market pass; the review round
(section 9) changed the model after it, on two corrections that lowered the value.

Five-year exit price $65.33 on 2031-10-31, the mean of two estimates: the long fade ($68.71;
growth and returns on new capital fade toward mature levels) and the
outside view ($61.95; what history says similar businesses are worth, at
10.7x EV/EBIT, enterprise value over operating profit). The fade at
10/20 years gives a $64/$66 exit; the value-driver formula (value from
growth, return on new capital and the discount rate) gives 12.6x against
the fade's 13.6x
Five-year return +4.69% a year from $54.72 on the central case, dividends included

Purchase price $39.36 to earn the 12% hurdle (the method in force for this report; Dong's
change to "buy at fair value" lands separately, between batches of reports)
Bear / bull today $16.46 / $56.95 from coherent operating cases (the bear is a severe but
plausible bad outcome, the bull the matching good one)
